Remission/Subsidy Requests
Open Business Managment from the side menu bar, then Tuition > Remission/Subsidy Requests.
This is the queue of remission and subsidy claims made against tuition that are waiting for someone to look at them.
Where the requests come from
A remission reduces what a payer is charged. Any remission set as Available Online, with a funding option attached, is offered to applicants while they are applying, so a parent who believes they qualify asks for the discount as part of the application rather than contacting you separately.
Where the remission has Request Evidence set, the applicant is also asked to supply something supporting the claim. That is the material you are checking here.
A subsidy works the other way round: the school, rather than the payer, elects to cover part or all of a pupil's fees. It suits cases where a school pays only a share of the cost, or covers it for a limited period - situations where simply billing the school for the whole amount would be wrong.
Working through the queue
Each request identifies the pupil, the tuition it relates to, the remission or subsidy being claimed, and any evidence provided. Approving a request applies the discount to the relevant charges; rejecting it leaves the charges as they stand.
Rejecting a request
Rejecting asks you for a Rejection Reason before it goes through.
Whatever you type is written onto the Notes of every application in the rejection, so it stays with the record. Whoever speaks to the parent next can see what was decided and why, rather than only that the funding is no longer there.
Rejection works on a whole selection at once, so the reason you give covers every request you have selected. Where the reasons genuinely differ, reject them in separate batches.
TIP
Write the reason for the person who reads it later, not for yourself today. "Evidence out of date - free school meals letter was for 2024/25" is worth considerably more than "not eligible".
Other areas of the business have their own queues: group memberships and hires.
