Manager Reports
Manager Reports is the line manager's view of pupil reports: how each teacher in your team is getting on with a reporting period, and the place to authorise their reports or send them back.
Where to find it: Teaching > Appraise > Manager Reports
It is there only if you are recorded as a line manager, and only where your service runs the Appraise module.
The team's progress
Choose the Reporting period at the top. You then get a line per teacher with four counts, which are the four states a report moves through:
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Incomplete | Still with the teacher, not finished |
| Completed | The teacher has finished it but not sent it |
| Submitted | Sent to you, waiting for a decision |
| Authorised | Signed off |
Read it left to right as a queue. Submitted is your work; Incomplete and Completed are the teacher's, and a period that is nearly due with a column of those is a nudge rather than a job for you.
Why a teacher has no View button
View only appears once a teacher has something submitted or already authorised. While every report is still with them there is nothing for you to open, so the button stays away rather than showing you an empty page.
Looking at one teacher's reports
View lists that teacher's reports for the period. From there you can open any one of them, and you also get send all back — returning the whole set in one go, which is the sensible move when a period has been filled in the wrong way throughout.
Deciding on a report
Opening a submitted report gives you four things you can do:
- Authorise and Publish — sign it off
- Return to Teacher — send it back with a note. Say what needs changing: the note is what they see
- Recall — pull back a report you have already authorised, if you signed off something you should not have
- Back — leave it as it is
You can also edit the Teacher Comments (for a typo) and add your own Manager or Authoriser Comments before you sign it off.
Return and send all back put the report in the teacher's hands again, so it goes back to the start of that queue.
"Authorise and Publish" does not always publish
The button says publish, but a family sees a report only when both are true: the report is authorised, and its reporting period is open for publishing to parents. That second switch is on the period itself, set in Xperios, not here.
So a period nobody has opened stays private no matter how many reports you authorise — and that is the usual reason a parent says they cannot see a report you know you signed off. Check the period before you go looking for the report.
When a family can read it, they see the comments, the levels, attendance and grades over the period, and the pupil's exam history. They never see a manager's annotation or who authorised it.
