Schools
How schools are classified, and where they sit.
School Categories
The kind of institution: private, academy, church funded.
A category is chosen on a school, and also on a prospectus — which is what makes it more than a label. Because a prospectus can be aimed at a category, you can offer one set of activities to your academies and another to your private schools without building a separate prospectus for each school.
School Types
The education provided: primary, secondary, special needs.
Types and categories answer different questions — what a school is as an organisation, and what it teaches — which is why both exist. A private secondary is one of each.
Local Authorities
The authorities you work with. Only available if Use Local Authority is turned on.
Wards
How a local authority is divided. Every school belongs to a ward, and a ward can be assigned to its authority.
