Studies

A study is a programme of tuition over a fixed period, made up of core and elective subjects.

A typical study runs for a year: a core subject such as a weekly thirty-minute violin lesson, plus related electives like music theory or choir. The sum of those costs is what the pupil is charged.

A study groups together pupil studies that share a start and end date, a service type, membership instructions, and the same core and elective subjects. Music-based ones might sit under a music study and dance under a dance study - but nothing requires that. One study for everything is perfectly workable, as is one per core instrument.

Setting one up

Add starts a new study, set Live, in the current academic year and carrying its dates, with the first Study service type, the first VAT code, and the next study code. Where there is no Study service type, Add refuses.

It needs a name, a code of letters, digits and dashes, a Study service type, and an end date not before the start.

Items

A study's items are the subjects it offers - which are core and which are elective, and what each costs. They are saved with the study.

Electives are optional by definition, so a pupil takes the combination that suits them and is charged accordingly.

Archiving

A study in use is archived rather than deleted.
