The Report Viewer
Running a designed report opens it in the Report Viewer. This is where you read it, check it, and send it out.
Two tabs
Report — the finished document, laid out and split into pages exactly as it will print.
Data — the rows behind it, in the ordinary results grid, with the same per-column filter row and totals described in Working with results.
Filtering the Data tab changes the printed report
The filter on the Data tab is not just for looking. It also decides which rows the Report tab lays out, and what an export or an emailed section contains. Trim the data down and the document follows.
Getting it out
Export to Excel takes the underlying rows, honouring the filter you have applied.
Export Section to PDF takes the document as laid out. On a sectioned report this gives you the section you are currently looking at — see Sections and emailing.
Print prints the laid-out document. Because the pagination is real rather than approximated, what comes out of the printer matches what is on screen.
Sections
Where a report is sectioned by record, a list of sections runs down the side so you can jump straight to one, rather than scrolling. Each entry is labelled from the record it belongs to — the teacher's name, for example.
